Freshman Brady Tkachuk assisted on three goals—including the game-winner—in Team USA’s 5-4 win against Finland in the World Junior Championships in Buffalo. With the win the U.S. nails down second place in Group A and will face Russia, the number three finisher in Group B in the medal-round quarterfinals on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
Canada, #1 in Group A, with sophomore Dante Fabbro, will play Switzerland while Finland, with Kasper Kotkansalo, takes on the Czech Republic, also on Tuesday.
With six points (2G, 4A), Tkachuk, who logged a team-high 22 minutes against Finland, is tied for second in tournament scoring.US Coach Bob Motzko noted:
"He's just scratching the surface. He's one of the guys who plays the right way every shift he's out there. That's what these athletes need to watch and learn from. He carries himself like a pro and plays like it; a great attitude."
