2016-17 Video highlights of 2018 recruit Ryan O’Connell at St. Andrews College (CAHS). The defenseman from Gloucester, Ontario who was drafted by Toronto last month and attended Maple Leafs development camp, had 6 goals and 31 assists in 51 games for the Saints.

USA Hockey’s Select 16 Development Camp begins tomorrow in Amherst, NY, with three future Terriers competing: 2019 forward Robert Mastrosimone, who will play in the USHL next season for Chicago; 2019 defenseman Braden Doyle, who returns to Lawrence Academy; and 2020 defenseman Cade Webber, who plays at The Rivers School for former BU All-American Shawn McEachern. All three had been invited to the NTDP Evaluation Camp.

Four defensemen from BU’s 2009 national championship team have signed new NHL contracts, with three of them changing teams. Kevin Shattenkirk signed with the Rangers (4 years, $26.6M). David Warsofsky signed with the Avalanche (2 years, $1.35M). Brian Strait headed back East to join the Devils (1 year, $650K). Erik Gryba re-upped with Edmonton (2 years, $1.8M).
In New Jersey, Strait is reunited with Coach John Hynes. In 2006 with Hynes behind the Team USA bench, Strait captained the gold-medal winning US squad, which included Patrick Kane and Erik Johnson, in the World U18 Championships. Strait later played for Hynes with the AHL Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Obituary
Longtime Terrier hockey supporter and member of The Friends of BU Hockey Michael Herman passed away on June 30. He and his wife, the late Meryl Starr Herman, were very active with The Friends for decades and favorites among the players, with Meryl organizing many team events.
