Jack Eichel and Evan Rodrigues have moved on to the pros, but the Terriers still know how to take charge in the third period, scoring twice in the final stanza to earn a 4-2 decision over Acadia University in an exhibition game at Agganis Arena.
Both third-period goals came off the stick of freshman center Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson (photo). The Stockholm native converted a sweet goalmouth pass from sophomore AJ Greer at the five minute mark. Then, after being tripped on a breakaway after emerging from the penalty box, JFK calmly converted a penalty shot to produce the final margin.
BU had taken the early lead when senior assistant captain Danny O’Regan’s centering pass from behind the end line glanced off a defender’s skate and into the net. The Axmen responded two minutes later when a shot from the point deflected past Connor LaCouvee. They took a lead at the 15 minute mark when Zachary Franko got behind BU’s defense and beat LaCouvee high to the glove side. The Terriers knotted the score in the second period when freshman Bobo Carpenter raced up the left wing and slid a pass to freshman defenseman Shane Switzer, who had joined the rush and buried the shot.
Sean Maguire, making his return to the ice after sitting out last season due to a concussion, stopped all 15 shots he saw in the final 30 minutes of the game. He was tested several times as BU was forced to kill three penalties in the final ten minutes. LaCouvee made a dozen saves.
Discussing his penalty shot, Forsbacka-Karlsson said:
“I’ve done the move before but you never really know how the goalie’s going to react. I saw he was kind of out of position and I felt like it was the right move to go. It was nice to get it in.”

2017 recruit Brady Tkachuk and 2018 recruit Logan Cockerill scored first-period goals for the NTDP U17s in a 6-3 win against Muskegon. Tkachuk, whose father, Keith Tkachuk, starred for BU’s 1991 Frozen Four squad, scored the game-winner.

Terriers are on the road Sunday, facing the Maine Black Bears in a 1 p.m. start at Alfond Arena. Last season, BU took two out of three from Maine, splitting a pair in Orono and winning at Walter Brown Arena.
